How your gift is used
A gift to a named cause is spent on that programme. If a cause becomes fully funded, or a project can no longer go ahead (for example because of conflict or a natural disaster), we use your gift for the closest similar work and tell you in the field report. A gift to "where most needed" goes to the cause furthest from its goal.
The amounts on cause pages ("$30 buys…") show what a gift of that size typically pays for. Gifts to a cause are pooled, so your gift funds that kind of work rather than one particular item.
Refunds
If you gave by mistake, gave the wrong amount, or were charged when you didn't mean to be, write to us within 30 days and we will refund you in full. After 30 days your gift may already be spent in the field, but please still contact us and we will do what we can. Cryptocurrency gifts are refunded at the value received, to a wallet address you give us.
Receipts and tax
GiveToAfrica is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 27-3982730. Your email receipt is valid for US tax purposes. Deductibility elsewhere depends on local rules.
Payments
We accept cryptocurrency only. Payments are handled by NOWPayments, a licensed crypto payment processor. Its fees are deducted from the amount we receive, and your gift is recorded once the network confirms it.
This website
We work to keep the information on this site accurate, but figures such as progress towards a goal are updated periodically and converted between currencies at approximate rates.
